There are many auto parts suppliers in Europe offering product solutions to replace vehicle parts (light vehicle, industrial, truck, agriculture, marine or other).
In the article we wrote in February 2019, “Do you still play the lottery?” We estimated that in Europe there was demand for approximately 15,500 different product solutions.
In this article we want to analyse the level of coverage offered by the main manufacturers and distributors of starter motors and alternators for all these product solutions that are currently in demand in Europe in the various application segments.
Based on more than 10 million searches during year 2018 in Europe, this is the breakdown of demand according to the various application segments we have analysed:
As we can see, approximately 41% of the demand is for Light Vehicle applications. The second application segment with the highest demand is Industrial with 15.5%, followed by Agriculture with 12%, Truck 10.5%, Marine 7% and other 7%. Finally, we have another 8% where as yet we have not been able to associate it to any specific segment.
If we now analyze some of the main manufacturers we can obtain the following coverage data on the current demand in Europe:

These high levels of coverage by distributors are achieved by making product ranges that intelligently combine products manufactured for them, products bought from different manufacturers and rebuilt products.
The problem is that, as we know, new needs for product solutions are continually emerging as many others become obsolete and are no longer needed. For this reason it is essential to actively manage the product range in order to adapt it to the changing needs of the market and continuously improve the level of service we offer our customers.
In the market there are tools for demand analysis that permit analysis of the service level offered by a range of products and thus determine how much room for improvement there still is, and identify those products that are not yet available and that have the greatest potential for sale.
